Remembrance day

Now i realize that today is 11/11/11 however it's also remembrance day and I feel as if it's important to really look at this day for what it is and to not get distracted by 11/11/11. Remembrance day dates back to the first world war. The war ended in 1918. The Armistice Treaty was signed on November 11th 1918 and the war ended. This is why on November 11th we remember our amazingly brave soldiers who fought for our freedom. At first, we just remembered and honored soldiers from world war 1, then we added world war 2, the cold war, Korean war, the vietnam war and we no longer honor men only, women are now important parts in our troops. The point is that by remembering it's showing our canadian heroes that we not only respect them but remember and thank them. In flanders field is one of the greatest war poems ever, made famous by John McCrae. Who wrote this during the first world war battle in Ypres, Belgium. I'm not gonna bore you with facts about this battle, but us Canadians were creamed. And I mean that almost very literally because the Germans attacked us with mustard gas. Completely unprepared for this soldiers ran from the approaching dark cloud, those who didn't run most likely died because of the poisonous gas.

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Happy Thanksgiving

So this is a really exciting day for me....I got an iPod touch...FINALLY!!!! Just sayin. It's pretty awesome. I got a purple zebra stripped case, purple headphones, and a purple charging cord. Yes, you could say that I'm obsessed with purple but there's nothing wrong with that...I mean it's better than drugs or something. So anyways I'm now gonna talk about something productive. Thanksgiving...the Canadian way... So here we go!! let's start with how it began. Our very first thanksgiving was in Newfoundland in 1578 when English explorer Martin Frobisher arrived there and wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival. So this means our thanksgiving happened even before the pilgrims arrived in the us. Thanksgiving was declared an official holiday in 1879 and was originally celebrated in late October or early November, it was then changed in 1957 because it always fell too close to rememberance day. And finally the only reason for the different dates between the canadian and American thanksgiving is because the holiday is about giving thanks for the harvests they had throughout the season. And since Canada is located more north the seasons change faster so thanksgiving comes sooner. So I believe that will be all for me.....happy thanksgiving!
